Bulwark Movers are Excellent!

Bulwark Movers recently moved my elderly mother from one assisted living facility to another one. I couldn’t have been more grateful to them for the kindness and care they expressed towards her, and the level of professionalism they had. Moving is always complicated, especially for an elderly person. I was unfortunately unable to be there myself, but I was in close communication with them every step of the way.

Their staff was courteous and timely, and they were always reachable via phone and email. I felt that I never missed a beat during the process, and I knew that my aging mother was in good hands. It was the closest thing to being there that I could have hoped for.

I would definitely utilize their services again if the time came, and I have already told my friends about how great they were to my mother. If you ever need a trustworthy and reliable moving company, look no further than Bulwark Movers. They are excellent!

Bulwark Moving Company

If you’ve ever been through the moving process, I hope you will appreciate my opinion. Moving can be very stressful and time consuming. Sometimes, there are unexpected “roadblocks” that pop up in your way, and it seems like it can take forever to get the job done. My experience with Bulwark Moving was a good one, and I would like to recommend them to you.

Bulwark Moving assisted my family and me with all of our moving needs. Without them, I’m not sure what we would have done. From getting boxes to unpacking, these guys knew how to hustle, and they made the day fly by quickly. From the moment they walked in the door, I felt comfortable and at ease.

As everything was being unpacked in my new house, I let out a sigh of relief. Nothing had been broken or scratched, and the move had gone smoothly. I know if I have to move again, I will call Bulwark Moving Company to assist me.

Reducing Stress for Senior Movers

“…moving is traumatic, especially when you've collected decades of memories and ‘stuff.’ In fact, more often than not, the thought of moving -- trying to figure out where to start -- leaves many ‘paralyzed,’ putting off moving or even creating a plan until the move becomes much more of a problem than it really has to be.”

Additionally, the article points out that sometimes seniors associate moving out of their home with loss and relinquishing control.

It’s true that frequently older individuals need to pare down in a major way when they move. They are frequently moving into smaller quarters, and may have less energy or fewer resources to care for quite as many physical possessions. However, “right-sizing” for the next phase of life can be a positive event, allowing older individuals to be involved in decisions about the disposition of furniture, personal effects and family heirlooms to individuals that can use and cherish them, prior to alternative dispersal of items from a will. In fact, it’s been shown that identifying known recipients or favorite charities for personal items has helped many individuals be able to pare down at any stage of their lives.

To assist with a less painful and more gradual culling of possessions, a good team of pre-moving day help can include grown children, neighbors, church members and friends. Engaging moverswho specialize in senior moving can remove much of the stress and burden at the time of the actual move. During packing, special attention is given as to how the client arranged his or her home. Assistance may be available from such movers as assistance with unpacking and replacing items in a similar layout in the new residence. This reduces what has become known as transitional trauma for elderly movers.

How to Pack Your Lamps and Lampshades

Lamps are awkward items to pack, as they are bottom-heavy and often breakable, with delicate, space-consuming shades on top.

Avoid the temptation to try to move them without the use of a box.

Follow these tips to ensure your lamps are ready to illuminate your new home in style upon arrival.
Remove the bulb from the lamp. Remove any collected dust on the lampshade and then the base with a clean, soft cotton rag. Remove the shade from the lamp base and lamp “harp” frame if it has one, being careful to replace the screw-on finial at the top to the lamp harp. Gently wind the cord around the base of the lamp, and then wrap the lamp base in bubble wrap. Please the lamp (or lamps) in a large cardboard moving box with a height that allows the lamps to clear the closed box. Stabilize and cushion the lamp bases with pillows that also need to be moved. Throw pillows can be used for this.

Pack the shades in a separate box. You may stack shades of the same dimension and shape if you have matching lamps. Use plain recycled paper (unprinted newsprint) to cushion the shades and also wrap the lamp harps which will be added to the same box. Seal the box and mark it “fragile” as well as identifying the boxes with their contents and the room they are designated for upon arrival.
